INFECTION CONTROL

Practices used to prevent transmission of diseases that can be acquired by contact with blood and mocous membranes.

Infection control programs all include the cleaning and sterilization of reusable dental instruments and devices. Care must be taken by the dental healthcare professional to ensure that all instruments are cleaned prior to sterilization, and that this is carried out in a safe manner to avoid injury and puncture wounds.

So Here in Shiny White before you enter the examining room, all surfaces, such as the dental chair, dental light, drawer handles and countertops, have been cleaned and disinfected. Offices may cover some equipment with protective covers, which are replaced after each patient. Non-disposabile items like the dental tools are cleaned and sterilized between patients. Disposable dental tools and needles are never reused.

Disposable dental tools and needles are never reused. Infection control precautions also require all dental statf involved in patient care to use appropriate protective equipment such as gloves, masks, gowns and eyewear when needed. After each patient, disposable gloves and masks are thrown away. Before seeing the next patient, everyone on the treatment team washes their hands and put on a new pair of gloves.
These measures are to be used when providing care to all individuals, whether or not they appear infectious or symptomatic.
